If you guitar rig and $ 100, what would you get?
1) An Epiphone SG G-310 with stock pickups and inserts 2) A knockoff Strat-type thing my brother recorded with a single coil humbucker, not 3) The Digitech DF-7 4) Line 6 Spider March 1930 watts 5) a few cables, guitar stands, a tuner, things like that and you get a Squire Start SSS Vintage Moddified sometime in September.
I would spend that $ 100 in the bank and start saving for a better amp. There are a lot of decent amps on musiciansfriend.com for less than $ 300 that sound better than the Line 6. I have a real case for the Epiphone Valve Jr. for a while now, but not the combo - a real head + cab. I am using a 2x12 - it's pretty killer, even unmodded. Failing that, I'd plunk some money down for some better pickups, if that is the next best way to improve your sound. Your pickup selection depends on what you want - rock / metal? High output pickups - the Seymour Duncan Alternative 8, PATB-2, or even Dragonfire Active pickups, which are not more than $ 100 after taxes and shipping costs for the whole series. For more show and less bawlz on the wall, a Seymour Duncan Full Shred for an articulate tone, SD Alnico II Pro for puppies that vintage rock / blues thing, or DiMarzio PAF Joe for a more virtuoso style sound. (I have the dragon fires in my "metal" guitar, and they do a good job, and an SD-Alt-8 in the bridge and an SD Alnic 2 Pro in the neck from another guitar, and the combo sounds great - very versatile, very toneful, good dynamics, good coil-tapping, etc) Saul
