Need help with equipment for Mic-ing my voice?
Alright heres what to do, play guitar and sing in a band. I run my guitar into an amplifier, but I have no experience in Micing pause. I've ordered Peavey6 Mixer (https://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/p ... and Shure58 Mic (Standard). I know nothing about the pre-amps and all I need. I obviously need to be heard over the drums (which will not be miced) and in the future, I would like to be heard in small or medium sized gig area (not more than 150 people). So what else do I need, only one pre-amp and a pair of speakers? Do I have a pre-amp? Do I have the Mic to the mixer running a pre-amp than a speaker, How does the process work? I would spend less than $ 300. My friend has a large number (approximately 4 meter high) speakers from his home entertainment system would allow have to use to save money? Thank-you
First, let me congratulate you on your choice of equipment. The SM-58 is an industry standard and Peavey equipment, while not the best sonically, is rugged and the road worthy. Now you strengthen Sigal and send it to a speaker, and you can do in one of two ways. 1) a separate amplifier and speaker 2) an active speaker includes an amplifier. The second approach offers several advantages in your situation, you can add extra noise by adding powered speakers. Musicians Friend lists many of these at $ 300. If you can scrounge the extra money, I would go with the JBL Eon at $ 450. Otherwise, and especially if your band is punk or hardcore or thrash, etc., the Nady to $ 300 will do.
