How should my Blues Guitar Amp for sound?
I'm not a very good amplifier or guitar (just learning), but the settings I have on the guitar its presence bass middle treble I also OD on the amp but I prefer to use my OD pedal. How can I give my amp a texas blues kind of sound?
There is no "blues" sound. Freddie King sounds very different from Buddy Guy, who sounds nothing like Joe Bonamassa, etc, etc. Even if you say "Texas' blues, sounds nothing like Jimmy Vaughan Lightning Red or Alan Haynes … All Texas blues players. That said, many of the older blues players will tell you that the Texas guys have borrowed heavily from the Chicago blues. I suppose that if a crucial aspect of a blues sound, it could be that any disturbance in the sound is the natural byproduct of only running the amp. Blues players found deformation when they had their little amps crank up all the way to be heard over the crowd in a juke joint on a rowdy Saturday night! But one important aspect …. they all used that tube amps tend to sound pretty well turned. Not always with a solid state amplifier. You do not say what kind of guitar you have (always an important ingredient). Almost all the players I have mentioned to Start players, so if that's what you have in your pretty good shape. As a general guideline, the mids are not from your sound. That is a very important part of the guitar through the mix. Without knowing anything else about your rig, I would say try the bass / mid / treble to 4/8/6 as a starting point. If you think your overdrive pedal sounds better than amp, use it. But, using just enough distortion to the sound of an edge. No reverb. None. Blues players do not need no STINKIN 'reverb … that is to surf dudes! Remember playing the blues is as much about the attitude and emotion as it's tone and technique. Real blues players did not get hung up on equipment …. just connected to what was available and started to tell your story. You will not find the blues in a Digitech pedal.
